The Maharaja Trophy KSCA T20 matches are usually held at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bengaluru, home of Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), after IPL season.
However, following a tragic stampede during RCB’s IPL championship parade on June 4, 2025, which claimed 11 lives, the Karnataka State Cricket Association (KSCA) has decided to host the 2025 tournament behind closed doors with no spectators allowed to ensure safety. That’s why tickets are unavailable for the event.
The KPL was stopped because of a big match-fixing and betting scandal that hurt its reputation a lot.
Some people were arrested, including CM Gautam, the captain of Bellary Tuskers, and his teammate Abrar Kazi. They were accused of fixing the KPL final.
The investigation also looked into other players like Nishant Singh Shekhawat and M Vishwanathan from the Bengaluru team, plus their bowling coach Vinu Prasad.
Also, Ali Ashfaq Thara, owner of Belagavi Panthers, was arrested for links to a betting group in Dubai and suspected match-fixing.
Each team can keep up to 4 players, usually their main or best ones.
In 2025, each team has ₹50 lakh to spend in the auction. The price of the players they kept is taken out first. The money left is what they can use to buy new players.
For example, after keeping 4 players, Hubli Tigers have ₹41.50 lakh left, but Gulbarga Mystics only have ₹24.05 lakh left.
Each team must have 16 to 18 players total, including the ones they kept. Usually, teams buy 12 to 14 new players in the auction.
Also, each team must sign at least 2 young local players (usually from Category C or D) to support young cricket players in Karnataka.
Players are split into four groups:
