PKL 2025 Season 12 is underway! Still not sure which teams are the favourites to win? In this guide, we predict the champion from the 12 teams and tell you everything you need to know to follow the PKL matches.
PKL - The IPL of Kabaddi
The Pro Kabaddi League (PKL) is India’s premier men’s professional Kabaddi league, launched in 2014.
PKL is the biggest Kabaddi tournament in the world. In fact, it is the third most-watched sports league in India, right after IPL (Indian Premier League) and ISL (Indian Super League). Many fans even refer to it as the "IPL of Kabaddi," and that tag actually fits quite well.
PKL 2025 Champion Prediction
Predicted Winner: Puneri Paltan
Puneri Paltan looks most likely to take the crown with a 30% chance. They are strong in both attack and defense, currently leading the table, and have championship experience from 2023. Close behind are Dabang Delhi K.C. (25%) and U Mumba (20%).
Puneri Paltan started the 2025 season with full dominance — winning all 3 matches before Patna Pirates broke their unbeaten streak, with a points difference of +31, the best in the league.
Their raiders, Aslam Inamdar and Mohit Goyat, are perfect for the Golden Raid format, while Fazel Atrachali’s defence adds stability.
With the new Golden Raid rules and a shorter season (18 matches per team), attacking teams like Puneri Paltan and Dabang Delhi K.C. have an extra edge.

What Is the PKL Winner Prize Money in 2025?
The PKL 2025 champion team takes home 3 Crore, while the runner-up earns 1.8 Crore, with a total prize pool of 4.8 Crore. The competition is intense since only the top two teams share the prize money.
What’s more, the PKL men’s champion prize is even higher than the Kabaddi World Cup reward of £150,000 (around 1.6 Crore INR).

What Is the Format of PKL?
PKL follows a league + playoffs format. In the league stage, 12 teams compete in a double round-robin, where each team plays every other team twice, totaling 132 matches (22 matches per team).
- Win: 5 points
- Draw: 3 points each
- Loss by 7 points or less: 1 point
- Loss by more than 7 points: 0 points
At the end of the league stage, the top 6 teams qualify for the playoffs. If teams have equal points, score difference is used as a tiebreaker.
Playoffs
- The top 2 teams go directly to the semifinals.
- Teams ranked 3rd to 6th compete in the eliminators:
- Eliminator 1: 3rd vs 6th, winner advances to Semifinal 1
- Eliminator 2: 4th vs 5th, winner advances to Semifinal 2
Semifinals
- Semifinal 1: 1st place vs winner of Eliminator 1
- Semifinal 2: 2nd place vs winner of Eliminator 2
The winners of the semifinals meet in the final to battle for the championship.

You Need to Know About KPL 2025 Rules
Unlike traditional Kabaddi formats, the Pro Kabaddi League (PKL) has introduced unique rules to suit modern audiences and fast-paced broadcasting needs.
Golden Raid (NEW)
If the game ends tied after 40 minutes, it goes to Golden Raid. Each team gets five raids one by one, total of 10 raids. The team with more points wins. Still tied? Then it’s Sudden Death - keep raiding until someone wins.
30-Second Raid Rule
Each raider must complete their raid - either by tagging a defender or safely returning to their half - within 30 seconds. If not, the point goes to the opposing team.
Do-or-Die Raid
If a team fails to score in two consecutive raids, the third raid becomes do-or-die - the raider must score, or they’re out and the opponent gains a point.
Super Raid
When a raider successfully eliminates 3 or more defenders in a single raid, it’s called a Super Raid.
While it doesn’t offer any extra points by rule, it can give a big morale boost to the team.
Super Tackle
If the defending team has 3 or fewer players left on the mat and they manage to stop the raider, they earn 2 points.
Bonus Line
If the defending team has at least 6 players on the mat, the raider can earn 1 bonus point just by crossing the bonus line and returning safely - no need to tag a defender.
